Groups & Travel Trade

This magnificent exhibition is devoted to the artistic and cultural riches of imperial China. Spanning the reigns of three emperors, Kangxi (1662—1722), Yongzheng (1723—35) and Qianlong (1736—95), it focuses on the most powerful rulers of China’s last dynasty: the Qing.

Visitors to the Royal Academy will enjoy a unique opportunity to see artworks and artefacts from the collections of the Palace Museum, Beijing, built on the site of the Imperial Palace, whose holdings of over a million works of art make it the largest museum in China. With the greatest painters of the day and the leading workshops of all China at his command, each emperor stopped at nothing to add to the glory of the state.

A spectacular range of works will include such treasures as precious robes and palace furnishings, paintings and painted scrolls, weapons and ceremonial armour, clocks and astronomical instruments, antique jades and bronzes, ingenious scientific instruments, the finest porcelain, carvings and lacquer ware, elegant furniture, a sedan chair and even an imperial throne. Many of these unique objects have never been shown outside China, making the exhibition an unmissable event for everyone interested in the world’s great civilisations.
