Yung Ho Chang and Arata Isozaki Hon RA: A Conversation on China
Two world-renowned architects reflect on the role of architecture in China and discuss their current projects with Peter Cook RA. As principal of Atelier FCJZ in Beijing and Head of MIT’s Architecture Department, Chang creates connections between China and the West, and his intellectual concerns reflect his status in both cultures. As one of Japan’s leading architectural thinkers for half a century, Isozaki has long considered the relationship between Japan and other cultures and presents his engagement with China by focusing on three arts buildings in different Chinese cities

Liu Jiakun
Chinese trained and based architect Liu Jiakun’s remarkable work reinterprets traditional Chinese architecture to develop a contemporary aesthetic language. Jiakun Architects are well known for their galleries and artist’s studios in the rural settings of Sichuan Province, including the breathtaking Hedouling Studio and the exquisite Buddhist Sculpture Museum.

Contemporary Chinese Architecture: Part I
China is currently undergoing rapid building and development and is fast becoming a dominant force in the future of architecture. Major events such as the 2008 Beijing Olympics are propelling this development alongside the dynamics of extraordinary domestic change. This first display depicts these processes through a series of spontaneous photographic impressions.
